west central Iowa | We made a platform scale to weight 10-12 fats at a time. We had a short concrete approach on each end. Platform had a bridge plank floor to cut down on noise. Cattle didn’t mind going onto scale. Our main problem was rats eating the scale wires!!! You could maybe slide a porch door spring over any unprotected wire, then put rest in conduit. All wire in conduit would be better. You will need an alley to load chute. Have it narrow enough that one man with a cane can load cattle onto scale and get gate shut. Will need a self latching gate latch.
We had issues weighing cattle, so weights were accurate. We tried to weigh the same time after feeding. Invariably some would drink heavier and cause a little heavier weight. If weighing regularly you could graph and get an idea what was going on. Good luck. | |
