Subject: RE: Help Plumbing a hydraulic motor on my homemade blower

North East Wimmera district of Victoria.

Years ago I blew a seal on a pump hydraulic drive motor.
What happened was the pump rotor [heavy cast] obvoiusly wanted to keep rotating when the oil flow was suddenly turned off - in effect the rotor [motor] became a 'drive', and the oil it pumped had to go somewhere.
Our solution was to put a one way 'flap valve' across the lines to the motor, so when the pressure flow was suddenly turned off, [ or even gently turned off!] the pressure caused by the rotor continuing to rotate just 're-circulated' - no problem as the pump 'coasted' until it lost momentum and stopped.
I seem to remember a rather heated conversation with the hydraulic 'expert' who first told me how to set up the system - and had not foreseen the 'overrun' problem.  His lack of understanding caused a huge mess of lost oil, a blown hydraulic line and I've forgotten how much time and running around to sort the problem, and get back to work.
Some "experts" fit to a tee this definition of an "expert".
"X" = an unknown quantity, and 'spert' = a drip under pressure!
Cheers from 'down under'!
