Subject: RE: Exapta's Thompson closing wheels

We had them on our planter 7-8 years ago.   Maybe longer ago, time flies.

Anyway we had Keetons with Mojo Wires on them as well and also had the wedges on the wheel bolts to angle them so they pulled dirt in.

I really liked the setup in no-till, I did not like it that well in tilled dirt.   In tilled dirt they were always wanting to plug and it didn't take much to plug them.     A corn root ball, a small rock, even a small clod of dirt would do it.

Enough times of dragging the closing wheels across a half mile and you finally get sick of them.   We have Schlagels on our planter now, they're not perfect either but I think they do better across a wider range of conditions.

We also have had a couple rows of Furrow Cruisers in the past.  I thought they did a nice job but I thought they wore plenty fast, probably due to some of our ground being sandy.
