Regular plastic split loom is made from polyethylene. It’s made to live under a trailer out of the sun, away from engine heat and oily vapours, and even under a trailer it crumbles way before we all want it to. It doesn’t stand a chance in an engine bay environment.

So make sure you get split loom made from Nylon. It’ll hold up. Much more expensive. Waytek has some.

If you want tape to last more than a couple years you need proper harness tape like made by Tesa or Polyken. Electrical tape will let go. Just because a tape is a friction take made of cloth doesn’t mean it’s a harness tape, get the real stuff or you’ll be redoing it.
