West Central Indiana | Have been no-till planting soybeans into 30" corn stalks with a 15" planter for 11 seasons. Sometimes we plant straight with the corn rows but most of the time we plant at a 5-7 degree angle to the corn stalks. Struggle to get the soybeans in the soil when crossing the old corn row sometimes. Then there are times we get them a little to deep in the center of the bulks.
I'd like to update my soybean planter and considering 20" rows. Can anyone tell me if running a 20" planter with row cleaners will get more consistent seed placement/depth over a 15" planter that is equipped with only a no-till coulter?
I have never been around a 20" planter and have never cut 20" soybeans. Harvesting 15" soybeans is fairly easy. I was concerned that 20" soybeans with row cleaners might windrow the corn residue and make harvest a little more of a challenge.
Thanks for any info. | |
