That's an interesting argument. And I won't disagree with that. Back in the Dust Bowl era of the 1930's, the wind erosion brought about from tillage brought the government in - thru the USDA Dept department - to find and promote ways to reduce erosion - both from wind and water. If we come to a point where wind or water erosion increases, we might see the government steps up to combat the erosion. And that might be thru mandatory compliance, not thru education and voluntary compliance as has been the practice in the past. I also want to say.... if there is an increase in investor and absentee landowners, you might find they will be all in favor of government forced compliance of erosion control practices. They won't be concerns about what that means for the tenant farmer. They will say "get it done". I could be wrong, but I could see absent landowners be all about protecting the environment, and that would increase decreasing soil erosion. |
