This post isn't about whether they're good or bad. I want to know just how many are actually needed for whatever it is they're going to accomplish. Here in ND, there's at least 6 with a possible 7 locations where one is being built or proposed to be built. Are they really thinking there's gonna be enough demand to warrant 7 data centers in the middle of nowhere, or are they looking at that many sites in the hopes they get one or two built? Cause that many data centers in North Dakota seems a little excessive to me
The same reason why everything suddenly has an "AI" feature even though nothing has changed. Investors are too stupid to actually research into the idea, but it is the latest fashion.
Remember the Dot Com bubble? There are many articles from back then of how billions of dollars were invested into non existent companies just because they had .com after their name and how adding .com to their name literally doubled their net worth.
Same idea as now, but you can't just blatantly copy everyone. Build by cities for lower latency. Build in the middle of nowhere for low long term costs. Build by a coal power plant for cheap power. |
