So what's stopping those US guys from running a few high houred tractors and an older planter? Nobody held a gun to their head at the dealer. Quite a few guys bought new equipment that they didn't need with grandpa's money back in the 80's, then watched as the bank foreclosed on their equipment and some of their land, too. I agree that from a JD multi-dealer's perspective things may be getting a little scary...heck, they may even have to start trading in older equipment just so they have something to sell to the guys that don't have the credit any more to trade multiple pieces of 2 year old low hour equipment for new ones. (well maybe things aren't that desperate yet...)
I’m making this post from the cab of a 6,000 hour 8120, and our planter tractor is a 7,500 hour 8130. We don’t plan to trade either anytime soon, and the last guy to put a wrench to either of them is a former JD tech who does a little moonlighting. I am why dealers are saying this is as bad or worse than the 80’s.
I’m not willing to work for $3 per hour for very long though, so even with reasonable cost equipment the numbers aren’t really working the moment.
