We are 17 years in on ours and have not received an increase in pay

I see comments like this pretty regularly and it always bugs me. I’m going to lose my filter for a bit here. Do you think the owner of your pigs is making any more money per pig now than they were when you started? Their costs have gone up the same if not more than yours. Do you want them to lose money so you can make more because that’s not very sustainable and then you have an empty barn. Nobody forced you to put up the barn.

I should have articulated a little more as I didn’t mean it as a compliant. I think the guys putting up barns now on longer loans will be loosing money at year 15 if same trend continues. Everything has gone up including the average price of pigs vs when we started. It is definitely a tight margin business. We quit farrowing and went contract finish for a reason and I haven’t forgotten why. We never lost money farrowing but really wasn’t turning enough profit to feed a family. Not many people will do the same thing for 17 years without a raise.
