Central Kansas
You betcha gilb:baskets generally were made out of what we called construction paper, different colors with a paper handle. This would have been in the 50’s. Here in central Kansas, this part of spring we had lilac & spirea in bloom at that time. Climate has changed because both bloomed 3 weeks go 70 years later. We did as you said, knocked on door and ran. Seems like things were more civilized and community minded back then with an attempt to bring a little joy to some older people on May Day, but, this was small rural town Kansas and many are still that way. Not sure how…or exactly what has been lost or deserted since those times. No social media or TV then, but most likely unfair to blame either or both of them for a change in attitude, respect & values.
