| Good question, and if May settles down into a drier more consistently warmer month like it likely will, in the bag is probably the right answer.
But if May continues to be overly wet in already too wet areas, then the answer becomes murkier. I've seen enough May's become washouts that I'm always leery of counting on good May conditions, enough that I take advantage of early planting windows when they occur.
Right now I have the majority of my corn and beans acres emerged an in decent shape with a low % of the surrounding area having much in. I'll take those odds, but you just never know.
In MLB, with a new prospect, they say it takes about 1,500 MLB plate appearances to have a good read on how he will project moving forward. Obviously we don't get 1500 years, and the climate is changing as we try to make solid decisions, but having the ability to get the crop in very fast with the bigger equipment and tech for many of you, it helps in waiting for more ideal environments to plant into. Odds are very good you'll get that window soon, but guarantees ........... forget about it. | |
