Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Shop Teacher is correct. As mentioned Ag Leader supplies constant 12V power to each clutch at ALL times. This may be the reverse of conventional thinking where each clutch would receive constant ground and the system would switch the power. Some other brands of clutch systems are wired that way.

Remember most clutch systems complete the circuit either by completing ground or power to activate the clutch which STOPS planting. Without a complete circuit the clutch should engage and plant.

This means that Pin A of each clutch branch on a Ag Leader clutch system should test 12V to chassis ground. Part of the reason for doing this is then Ag Leader can "check" for the presence or absence of a clutch at each clutch section specified in the configuration. It can determine if its findings agree with the clutch configuration that you have created.

To do this, the system checks for 12V returning from a clutch on Pin B. If 12V is entering the clutch on Pin A and the clutch coil is healthy, 12V should be present and be able to be detected on Pin B.

The system does this on initial startup and periodically through the day. The system can then compare these clutch "returns" with the configuration. If there is a mismatch, the system complains and displays the type of error message that you observed.

So in your case, your configuration has told the system that there should clutch be a clutch "return" for at least clutch sections 1-8 (maybe more) For some reason, it is not finding a "return" from section 8. This could be a broken wire not sending 12V to that branch or a broken wire not returning from that branch or a defective clutch itself. In any of these cases, that clutch branch would not operate properly so the system warns you.

My guess is that the wiring in the branch to your number 8 section has become damaged for some reason (folding, pinched, etc.). This type of message would also appear if the configuration was not created correctly for your planter layout. If for some reason, the configuration has changed this could also explain the message. In either case you need to explore the problem and correct it.

I'm surprised by your statement that the last rows won't plant. I would agree that the clutch system wouldn't work properly and you would want to troubleshoot it but if the clutch systems has a problem, those rows should still plant but not shut off as you desire.
