I had occasion to see my subsidies totaled up, since like 96, on EWG. It's not an insignificant amount. And I'm way down the list, several pages back in my county.
When I was younger I was in on some meetings with some legislators and commodity group leaders discussing crop insurance. The premise was that we would subsidize crop insurance and then the other support programs and Ad Hoc disaster programs could go away. It sounded great. Now after many years, I realize that is never going to happen. I was naive, and now feel duped.
I admire those that operate outside the government programs, but hard to argue that one is not putting themselves at a severe disadvantage in this business if you don't participate. | |
