Subject: Where is the ignition module on a 1984 chevy truck?

Southern Illinois
Or is there one? I have a 1984 chevy K2500 that went dead on my field road. I was driving along and it just died and wont spark or even attempt to start after any amount of cranking. Way back in the 1990's a friend put some kind of module or something electronic in under the distributer(Maybe), I think it done it again. I would like to fix it myself as a $200.00 tow bill for a $300.00 truck is wasteful. Has anybody any experience with these old dinosuars. Is it hard to do?? / thanks in advance. I should buy something different but the old girl has 260,000 miles on her and usually runs good.
