Subject: RE: Farming for insurance

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
I hear ya. Our weather patterns have changed enough that we may have to change our cropping practices. For now, as long as our APHs are high enough to be somewhat covered by crop insurance, we will try to maintain planting the crops and rotations we have in the past but if this weather trend continues long term, if this is the new normal, we will need to do something else.
Wheat has always been a good rotational crop for us but with these dry springs we’re having, if that trend continues, it’s getting very difficult to grow wheat. Then we would need to rely on summer moisture for all other crops.
Just waiting and seeing what unfolds. We will have to adapt somehow.
