There was probably some due diligence, but in these cases most people are getting a commission or bonus so there's a lot of blind eyes being turned. This is big enough that some bank boards should have been aware if not required to give approval. Anyone with a basic knowledge of ag finance could see it wasn't an economically feasible business model.
