In urban areas - especially like New York City - bodedas are common. I wasn't sure what they were, so I looked it up one time. As far as I can tell, they function like a grocery store, and maybe sell more ready-to-eat meals.  And they tend to be owner-operator owned as well, instead of a chain store.
