Subject: RE: Farmer Cash

SE IL
A big reason for the heavy farm payments for the southern regions is due to those areas handing out AFB memberships for everyone who buys an icecream cone at the local DQ. They have by far the heaviest weight in AFBF and thus get the lobbying power. The real question if these payments truly “help” so much why are those crops some of the biggest losers right now as far as commodity production? Fact is the gov payments create massive inflation in the sector. The biggest beneficiary is likely the farmer through increased land values, but this of course is weighted heavily to those who have historically owned land. It makes it harder and harder for those who don’t to get in the game. JD, Bayer and large fertilzer also due tons of lobbying in DC because they most certainly are a pas through for the farmers in many ways. We complain about the oil lobby in Dc, but collectively the AG lobby is the largest.
