Subject: RE: Everybody must be planting

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
We’re supposed to get a half inch Sunday. All that will do is soften the top inch or so and give conditions you describe. Not much rain after that next week.
Seriously, if we don’t see at least an inch at one time we can’t plant. And we really need 2”.
I covered a few miles yesterday. The grass is shocking. I guess because by now you start to think it should be greening up and it’s not. Brome grass on highway right of ways isn’t even trying to grow. Canyons in pastures are not even green. It’s serious. Guys with livestock are putting in pivots of oats for feed and planning to put in forage sorghum later. These would normally be corn or beans.
With all the fires, finding grass is about impossible. Government really should open ALL CRP acres to grazing this summer.
