Subject: Re-chroming a hydraulic shaft?

ncia
I have a jd 8330 with ils. The shaft on the steering cylinder has the chrome surface flaked off in 1 area. Nothing else wrong with the internal part. Seeps oil and will eventually ruin the seal. Deere wants $3000 for this shaft/piston/ram part. I can have a machine shop build an identical part. I was told today that there are places that can restore the surface. Is this true and anywhere in iowa or southern Minnesota that does this?
