First 8-track was Joe Walsh's So What. Not sure on cassette- maybe Nazareth Hair of the Dog?

For you youngsters, 8-track really sucked:
1. There was no rewind- if you wanted to repeat a song, you had to fast forward to the same place in the loop.
2. Alignment was critical- someone else mentioned the matchbook trick.
3. Some players would 'eat' tapes: the music would mysteriously stop, and you would pull out the cartridge, but a whole wad of tape was stuck in the machinery. Not unusual to see a string of tape along a stretch of country road. I got pretty good at opening them up and resplicing the tape.
4. You had to have a bulky storage case to schlep between home/car/truck/tractor/etc. One space in said case was taken up by a head cleaner cartridge.
5. The cartridge would melt/distort if you accidentally left it on the dash of your car in the sun.
6. There were quadrophonic systems developed in 8-track. They came out about ten minutes before cassettes changed the car stereo game completely.

Still, it was all there was if you couldn't get good reception on WLS and didn't want to listen to Dick Herm or Problem/Solution...
