The big lie I see people repeating is that corn doesn’t have roots on top of the soil. If you hose down the soil you will fine a big network of roots with very little soil cover. Also, in a high pH soil you should be able to take advantage of stratification as it is easier to maintain a lower pH on the surface of the soil.
