southern MN | What I saw several times repeated is notill means wetter soils, and that is why tillage is done around here. Need dry, well less than saturated, dirt to plant into. Can’t wait until June to plant.
Mixing in the nutrients is a bonus, for what can turn into very dry august, so the deeper roots have enough fertility to draw from when the top 2 inches dry out and the shallow roots are dormant.
Different conditions, basically opposite of what they describe. So different tillage and fertilizer needs here.
These things just don’t apply universally.
