In this case I would start by checking the battery. Last week I was mowing the yard when the Kawasaki Engine quit. The battery showed 12.75 volts but I still hooked up a battery charger. After a few minutes I got a clicking sound when I tried to start the engine. I replaced the 3-year old battery.
