Monette Group — one of North America's largest farm enterprises — has entered creditor protection, as of April 21, 2026.

18 Monette-related companies are listed under an initial order obtained from the Court of King's Bench of Alberta under the Companies' Creditor Arrangement Act (CCAA).

The initial order provides a stay of proceedings until May 1, 2026, according to court documents shared by FTI Consulting Canada, which was appointed as monitor.

Parallel Chapter 15 applications were also filed on April 21 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Monette Group notified landowners in a letter dated April 21, 2026 that it had filed for creditor protection.

The CCAA filings say Monette held a $950 million secured credit facility from a syndicate of lenders, which matured on April 15, 2026.

Monette listed many of its properties for sale this past winter in an attempt to right-size the business, but the court documents say the sale process did not hit agreed-upon milestones. They show the company has exhausted its available credit and currently lacks cash flow to continue operations and fund the 2026 planting season.
