I have the video of my Dad's retirement auction in 1998. I watched it a couple years ago for first time in decades while I was transferring it to my computer. As you say, lots of old neighbors and townsfolk that are now gone. My folks are gone too as well as a couple other relatives that were there. I ran out of tape near the auction end so the final sales were not recorded.
