Very southern Mn
Absolute BS 1891. First of all that war is still going on, yet fuel went down when Trump became president. Biden administration did nothing about creating more oil in US. other than drain the petroleum reserve. Period. Their strategy was to reduce any drilling, push electric at all costs. Oil companies were pulling funds from oil exploration and development. What politicians didn’t understand was that you need to charge those batteries some way and electrical grid in some areas is stressed now. Also battery technology is still lacking power to drive large vehicles as bus deal has been a huge debacle.
I know- ag has always been a very low margin industry and that is if you average the highs and lows. Part of the problem is what has been the current solution, all the gov guarantees and payments. It encourages production on marginal land. It encourages big guys to be more brave bidding up land as they just need to make a few dollars per acre as they have a huge safety net underneath. The market always cycles, but can be a multi year time frame. Also there is also change, I hate change as I am getting old enough that I am happy just where everything is but look at any other business or industry or even professionals in legal and banking. AI will upend a lot of things. A lot of people will have to adapt. As farmers we are not guaranteed anything more than anybody else. Do I believe in the family farm? Absolutely, a well run fam can be lowest cost producer and do t very efficiently. But we have t accept and adapt to change and be innovative. I don’t have the answers but am looking at it as a challenge, not a roadblock. Some would say it easy for old guy to say above, but we remember the 80’s, here part of 90’s with extreme weather, than very low prices for another number of years. So when you get to my age, you realize that is agriculture. You have to survive the tough times to make it to the good times and than make wise decisions in the good times to survive the bad times.

That all said , I know many are dealing with multi year droughts and or serious health problems and my prayers go out to you. I am sorry for the rant but I guess it has hit a nerve with me about everybody complaining and expected even another handout. I promise I am done commenting in this thread.
