I wanted to see if I could have handled this any better, I feel like I did a lot wrong.
I'm at a motel 150 miles from home taking in a farm auction.
Had a guy call me at 4am asking me how my dad died.
Needless to say that didn't put me in a state of readiness...
I don't know the guy very well, have sold him a few parts years ago. I think he and my Dad talked a handful of times, dad was always happy to converse with anyone and everyone.
But I feel God made me answer the phone for a reason, id probably normally sleep through it.
I tried being gentle and uplifting, unfortunately 4am brain wasn't firing on all cylinders so I was definitely lacking substance to my words.
He was using a lot of self harm related language and hung up, ignoring call back attempts. thankfully mentioning which town he was driving into before he hung up, so I called dispatch in that county, then called our home county dispatch where he lives and they were going to send a deputy to check on him.
I also posted on his Facebook page for people to "reach out to him ASAP, he needs our support" basically vague to not divulge any private details but hopefully convey the seriousness of the situation.
I feel bad for calling the law on him, because idk what kind of long term repercussions that will have for him, but unfortunately I don't have the phone numbers of hardly any of his friends, so I felt like that was my only option.
There is a picture of a little boy on his Facebook, I'm assuming his son. I felt he'd want me to do anything I could. | |
