| In my opinion the farm subsidies do way more harm than good. The supply chain will suck any potential profit they can out of the farming sector and farmers being farmers they will bid themselves out of the rest of any potential wealth they could have had when given the opportunity.
That results in the non farming sector seeing subsidies as handouts to farmers without the benefit of it actually staying in the farmers hands and making them wealthy. By wealthy I mean having extra disposable income. Things like increased farmland values do add to their wealth but that can remain an unrealized gain during the farmers lifetime. | |
