southern MN | Was driving a bit after sunup this morning and saw a planter running in the field. Temp was 26f on the pickup display.
I remember when I was in high school we would call in the soil temps at 7:30-8 in the morning for a week or two, the local radio station would report the 5-8 of our reports every morning as the farmers were supposed to wait for 50 degree temps, it was our ffa public service.
How times change. I know seed treatment has come a long ways so soil temp isn’t so important any more, but fun to look back.
Few folk started this past weekend, I suspect a lot will have some acres in this week. Might rain Thursday.
We are on a temperature roller coaster, 25 to 85 degrees so pick your day, but the soil temps are at ‘oats and wheat’ stage.
