Oh boy—both of us had jobs, my teaching job did not cover the 11.5% mortgage interest. I sold a 10 year old vehicle and replaced with a 12 year old vehicle to gain $1000 cash to cover bills - absolutely nothing else to fall back on. The memories and lessons learned then guided us ever since.
