
| ricefarmer14 - 4/19/2026 21:55 Agree, farming as a business doesn’t work currently. Equipment is a big one. It’s easy when you think about the very definition of a business “going concern”…this includes replacement of productive assets.
Most businesses don't replace major equipment (or other depreciable assets) nearly as quickly as farmers have over the past 20-30 years. Other businesses will actually wear out and rebuild the same piece of equipment multiple times over a time frame of decades.
There's been a lot of money spent on equipment over the past 20+ years that has achieved little else other than making the tax burden smaller.
