I think it depends where you started. I’m in my 30s, both parents gone and inherited almost nothing. I had a little help but more or less a first generation farmer
(Grandpa farmed my first 160 and left me some wore out equipment). I own the majority of a 40 but the bank still wants paid. I’d like to buy another one so each kid can have one if they desire but at this point in my life why try to acquire a bunch of ground? Other assets offer better returns or at least equal returns and unfortunately either of my kids carrying on is unlikely. I appreciate those that came from generational farms and but in 2026 I’m afraid it’s too late to start that. I’m not bitter towards those with a better start but am aware that it’s nearly impossible to catch up.
