| It certainly can be debated however the basic idea of subsidies is to ensure that it is worthwhile enough to get people to produce products and the basic idea of paying government people to do something is so that something in particular gets done. In both cases it is other citizens paying the price. That part is not a stretch at all. But I do agree that they are not exactly the same. They are however different mechanisms for getting the public to pay others for something deemed to be necessary for the public good.
There are government jobs that are certainly not necessary for the public to continue to function just like the argument can be made that farmers would still farm their without subsidies.
But I certainly understand that there will be different opinions than my own.
