So, let's do the math on that....

AMS - 2000 lbs/ton x .21 = 420 lbs N per ton in AMS

        $550/ ton AMS /  420 lbs N per ton AMS = $1.31 lb N when purchased as AMS

 

UREA - 2000 lbs/ton x .46 = 920 lbs N per ton in Urea

       $900" and something" means cost of nitrogen in urea is about $1.00/ lb N (depending on what the "and something" is....

Another way to look at it....

If Nitrogen in Urea were to cost $1.30 / lb N (same as AMS), that ton of Urea would cost $1196/ton

 

I'm not saying don't use AMS - I use AMS same as others suggest, but AMS is the more expensive source of N.  I set my AMS rate to get the sulfur that I need, and then balance it out with Urea.
