NC Kansas | Everyone has their own ways. We used 1/2 blood bulls for awhile and our calf crops were very inconsistent from CE and BW to WW and YW and everything inbetween. Went back to purebred bulls and our calf crop is consistent. I use a 3 breed rotation. So I love muts, they make the best cows. But I don’t care for them on the sire side especially if they are going to cost the same, or more, as a good purebred. I feel a lot of breeders make crossbreds because it’s the easy road. It’s hard to make great purebreds that do it all right. Heterosis and Hybrid vigor are awesome but the best bang is the first one and when breeders take that the commercial guy loses that. And as for donor cows, they can take you the wrong way just as fast as the right way. See so many getting flushed at to young age anymore to be proven for my liking. I sure enjoy reading these conversations, I don’t post much because I can get too opinionated but that’s what makes the world go around I guess. | |
