And I'll argue this mindset will be the death of family farms. It is why costs are so high and the profits get bid out. It will result in the elite few becoming corporate farms and the lifestyle that you desire will be no longer.
My thoughts along with yours as well. I have built a non farm business along side a farm business without mixing funds. The farm now barely scratches by, while the non farm keeps on trucking. Now there are trade offs and I understand things cycle. My non farm has suffered by not being comfortable to expand because of the margins of the farm.
The largest landowners in my area are primarily not farmers anymore, and there is a reason for that.
ETA: I am still building a legacy that hopefully future generations can build on.
