EPDs are updated regularly as more data is submitted on any animal in an animals pedigree.
And as far as inconsistency in birthweights and calving trouble. A bulls genetics don’t change his entire life, that’s just not even scientifically, physically or realistically possible. But a mut is always a mut and will produce muts. They are inconsistent vs a purebred of any breed. Some purebreds throw inconsistency due to genetics behind them. And with the Simmental association a “purebred” isn’t even a purebred any more because they let a 7/8 be called purebred. If you want consistency stay with a purebred and if you want even more consistency buy from a breeder that breeds for consistency and don’t use every new unproven sire that may or may not make the next million. If you want to take consistency up one more notch buy from a breeder that line breeds. And not meaning anything bad about the breeder of your bull. No clue who they are. Just general thoughts.
