Processed meats contain salt and sugar to safely cure the meat to prevent food borne illess. Sugar besides tasting good has hydroscopic osmotic properties. That's why it's used. Besides bacon very little of the added sugar in processed meat can enhances flavor.

Really, so the jerky that has added sugar "tastes" just as good as the sugar free version? It's obvious the sugar is not required to produce the product (given the "sugar-free" option from the same producer).

The ham with added sugar doesn't out-sell the "no sugar added" version?

Lunchmeat, like "honey ham" just has the sugar added for illness prevention?

Even McD's chicken nuggets add sugar (dextrose) for taste, not for food safety.

It really sounds like your research and depth of knowledge on this subject is sorely lacking given the assertively strong opinion you used to disparage the other poster.
