Northern Nebraska | It's an endowment they work off the interest from it. If they spent it that would be the equivalent of selling the farm and wondering why you can no longer make money farming.
They do use that interest to pay for research. Over half of their research funding comes internally and the other half is split between private industry and federal resources.
Everyone always acts like federal score funding is wasted money but it does go on to benefit us all. The internet, GPS, microchips and doppler radar were all developed for the government with government funding. Now they indispensable to everyone including farmers.
