Until there's a more accurate way to age em at the sale barn that's the way it is. As Mohoff says, usually it's not the vet doing the mouthing. I've sold cows before that aged 5-6 and I knew they were 10-12. They'd always had good grass and hay unrolled for them. It makes a difference.
I sold some the barn called 5-6 year olds that I bought 10 years ago as 5-6 year olds.... guess I should have kept them if they were that young.
