I highly doubt wheat acreage will ever get as low as oats.
A lot
It's easy for some corn/bean guys to swear off wheat.
But there are definitely arid areas where wheat is the only crop that yields.
Corn, soybeans, Edible beans are not an option.
Corn yields better than spring wheat in this arid region. Corn yields about like winter wheat. 40 bu on a good year when spring wheat would do 20 bu with poor test weight.
I know land costs may be a lot less but how do you guys make any money raising 40bu corn and that is a good year? Even if your basis is couple dollars better than here just not many bushels to sell. Cost to run a combine planter and sprayer should all be about the same regardless of yield. Just trying to learn what we are doing wrong here that we need crop yields 4-5 times that to make a living. Fertility needs would be less but still requires an application trip.
