 Mather, Manitoba | Older varieties were tall and lodged easily. Newer varieties are about 30 inch tall. Some people spray Manipulator to keep it shorter yet. Puts energy in head and apparently yields better and prevents lodging... apparently. No solid data on it yet.
Some of our feed barley always goes flat. Very brittle straw at maturity. Any storm or higher winds and flat. We just run land roller over it about 2 leaf stage, so we can run flex heads on ground if need be. | |
