Problem with BTCs is that its value is directly correlated to the USD$. When dung hits the fan, people buy USD$ with their bitcoins. And crypto exchanges don't charge a 3% fee just because; they don't hold onto billions of USD$. When you buy USD$ with your BTCs, the exchange goes shopping for them on forex like everybody else. We've just recreated "oil" without any useful purpose in and of itself.
