Yes, many of my classmates went and never came back. At high school reunions there would be a list of classmates that died or were MIA in vietnam. I'm not going to talk about my experience. Please do not say 'thanks for your service'.  No one should say, nor does anyone who's done it, want thanks for dropping napalm or agent orange on civilian villages, or B52 crews carpet bombing Hanoi civilians after breakfast on Guam because someone in DC thought we could bomb them into submission...that didn't work and neither will "bombing Iran into the stone age" as 45 has threatened.

What does "victory" in these wars of choice look like?

Does anyone here know anything about My Lai? This is what happens to soldiers with no moral footing for what they are tasked with doing.

What is the moral footing for what we are doing in Iran?

"the moral footing for what we are doing in Iran":
47 years ago they stormed our sovereign U.S. embassy and held them hostage for 444 days.
Continually shouting "Death to America" they have become the worlds largest state sponser of terrorism killing and maiming American citizens and service members through its own forces and proxy militias. More Americans have been killed by Iran than any other terrorist regime on Earth.
Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has been implicated in hundreds of terrorist attacks, plots, and assassinations in more than 40 countries.
They have been lying about building nuclear ICBM's for decades to globally spread their reign of terror and control.
That is our "moral footing"!
BTW:  The Autocratic, noble Islamic regime just murdered at least 30,000 of their own people and has shut down the internet.
During 32 years of military service I also had comrades killed and wounded in 3 conflicts.
It is long overdue that the world recognizes the threat to world peace that Iran has become.
The U.S. now has an administration that is willing to stop Iran and take action similar to when the Western powers could have stopped Germany in the mid 1930's.
Be grateful that future generations will not have to cower to them.
IMO, we live in the most free and secure nation in history and I was privileged to serve.
Yes; like all nations in history we make mistakes, but the USA continues to be the most altruistic/benevolent country which has done more to improve the human condition through economic/financial stability, technological innovation, refugee resettlement and championing democratic ideals than any other nation in history.
