Soybean based fertilizer has been marketed to organic farmers for many years, but it's often seen as cost prohibitive. Some small scale or produce farmers use it.
Beans are high protein (duh), in an amino acid form, which in theory is more efficient for the plant to use than nitrates. I imagine it would be best banded next to the row rather than broadcast.
