How could anyone be naive enough to believe that a "deal" would happen. Vance doesn't have any authority, Trump wouldn't allow it. The only credible reason Vance was sent was because he's good at standing in front of a camera and bad-mouthing his opponent. The White House most likely had his "failed negotiation" speech written before he even left.
