Even a blind sow finds an ear of corn every once and a while. They and the secretary are incorrect. We may have spring needs to that point but we don't even have side dress imports on shore yet.
If your thesis is correct, then how much sidedress fertilizer (% of total corn belt needs) is open at this point to spot market/supply chain constraints?
Iowa isn’t much for sidedress needs based upon discussions/conversations regarding water quality concerns and WHY the issue (fall NH3 for cost control and manpower efficiency at the retail level). Fertigatiion /sidedress in the pivots out west /Nebraska is a bigger deal but you folks have lots of supply tankage based upon del Peterson auctions/big iron auctions.
How much sidedress fert needs is actually left? Otherwise, folks such as w1891 are correct that farmers are hopeless guessers - problems affect their “perceived” neighbors but they/themselves are covered? Ultimately rendering a USDA estimate closer to the actual truth than a bunch of us crying fowl/spitballing on a net board. |
