My hunch is, the most vocal people are the ones who are locked in because they look real smart. The others who didn’t get locked in aren’t going to crow about it because they don’t look smart. Personally I think it’s less than 80% because there never was a motivating price to lock it in, and I don’t think there was the need for as many tax deductions, also reducing the push to prepay. Personally I did 60% in January and rolled the dice. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule but that’s my thoughts.
I’d think the 80% number includes supplier purchases, which would be significant even in areas where producers don’t or didn’t pre purchase a lot. This whole thing broke out right at the eve of spring spreading season here, suppliers aren’t going into that without the sheds full.
