Subject: RE: JD rate controller need help

I am using a GS2 with JD rate controller to control a raven PWM valve for liquid fertilizer application. It will only control the rate within a very small window. Ex. speed fluctuation of less that .5 mph. The pressure remains the same even if I slow down to half speed. I can however, go to the control valve test and manually operate the + and - buttons and get about 30 psi variation, so the valve does work and the controller can adjust it. It just won't operate the valve aggressively during normal operation. Also, I have removed the valve and inspected. It seems to slide back and forth easily.

I've tried different settings in the pwm setup to no avail. Here is where it started at.

Control Valve Calibration: 1513 Tried 1533
Coil Frequency: 110 Tried 122
High Limit: 193 Tried higher number
Low Limit: 100 Tried lower number

I have no experience with the Deere rate controller but if I understand you correctly you are able to adjust the rate in what I would call Manual. If this is true, it means your valve and hydraulics have the capability to operate over a wider range in automatic but something is preventing this.

This might be something like a setting that is overriding your high/low limits. For example with my Ag Leader PWM control in my Hagie, there is a setting where I can override the low settings and keep them higher to maintain agitation and pump speed when all sections are OFF. This would not be help you but my point is that there might be some type of other setting that is limiting the PWM range in automatic.

With my Ag Leader system I can go to a diagnostic menu and observe the current PWM settings. If I am in manual I can increase/decrease the pump speed and the PWM values shown will indicate the PWM value being sent to the valve. This can be helpful in troubleshooting since it allows me to "see" what the current values are.

I can then go to automatic and see if the range is being allowed as I change ground speed etc. If you can observe your PWM output, this might give you a clue as to what is (really what is not) happening.

Does the system seem to respond in automatic when driving slowly or with a rather low rate?
